Maharashtra, the land of a great variety of delectable fruits has numerous orchards throughout the state. If Jalgaon is the ‘Banana Capital of India’, the ‘Wine Capital of India’ is Nashik, Ratnagiri is famous for Hapus mangoes, Nagpur is surely the ‘City of Oranges’ and Mahebaleshwar is the ‘Basket of Strawberries’, then Bordi must be the Chikoo County of India. No wonder, this small village knows how to celebrate the various aspects of a delicious fruit called Chikoo. Hence the place observes its most diverse festival, Chikoo Utsav.
Bordi is a small and beautiful beach side village in the Dahanu tehsil of Palghar district in the state of Maharashtra with an abundance of Chikoo or Sapota fruit. Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), Kokan Bhumi Krishi Paryatan Sahakari Sanstha (KBKPS) and INTACH-Dahanu Chapter together took this opportunity to celebrate the copiousness of the fruit and to make people aware of the essentials through the help of local people by letting them participate in the jubilation showcasing the local cultures.
